Educator Spotlight – Dawn R., School Psychologist/ Counseling Department Lead

Meet Our Special Educator of the Month, School Psychologist Dawn R.

At Cross Country Education, we’re honored to work with the best of the best from across the nation! We take great pride in their shared passion for helping students succeed, and we love passing along their insight to inspire others interested in this rewarding field. This month, we’re spotlighting an amazing School Psychologist, Dawn R.

Here’s why Dawn decided to become a psychologist, what she enjoys most about working with the Cross Country Education team and schools, and what advice she has for school psychologists just embarking on their careers.

Why did you become a psychologist?

While I had worked in the education field for years, it was only when my young sons were identified with reading difficulties that I recognized the important contribution that a school psychologist can make in a student's education. I subsequently went to graduate school to become a school psychologist and have since enjoyed being an advocate for students' needs because I understand the perspective of a teacher, parent, and psychologist.

What do you like about Cross Country Education?

I love being able to set my own schedule as a CCE assessor. Having a home office without distractions is how I work best and can be most efficient and productive when writing reports. I am also excited and honored to be a lead in the Counseling Department this year. It's an opportunity to stretch myself and be a part of two modalities.

What have you liked about your experience working at CCE schools?

Whenever I go to a school, I always get treated with respect by staff. They appreciate my services and are willing to help facilitate the assessment in any way possible.

What kind of advice would you give to someone starting out in your field?

I would encourage new school psychologists or counselors to not be afraid to make mistakes and to seek support whenever needed. Finding a professional mentor and seeking advice from colleagues are invaluable resources that can help throughout a career.
